Chicago July 4 Spectacular

Another year, another Chicago concert. Except this one was different. Reinvigorated and bolstered by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three months ago, Chicago sold out three nights at the Hollywood Bowl over the July 4 weekend. Along with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and its jovial conductor Thomas Wilkins, and the US Air Force Band of the Golden West, no less, plus fireworks, there was plenty of colour and ceremony and spectacle to go with those classic Chicago songs I’ve heard and seen them play each year for a while now.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2016 – Part 2: Chicago

Finally the greatest ever rock band with horns has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. After many years of following and befriending and interviewing and adoring this band, I had to be in the room to witness the event, especially with their co-founder and original drummer Danny Seraphine reuniting with his former bandmates.

Another chance to see Ann and Nancy Wilson, nice and close. A different set than what they played at the Hollywood Bowl, and a much different audience, but still such a delight. I’m crazy on them as always, and more photos to show for it.

With nothing much left to prove or achieve in their careers, Ann and Nancy Wilson stepped onto the stage of the Hollywood Bowl for the first time ever with their current version of Heart and with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra behind them, broke into their deeply soulful rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” and it all built from there.

Finally emerging to share the best of my Fleetwood Mac photos from 10 nights ago. A magical evening, where the Lindsay & Stevie Show bowed to the majesty of the pulsing heartful core of Fleetwood Mac – Mick, John and Christine. Christine was the glue that finally put it all back together. Unforgettable.

Queen with Adam Lambert

I vowed I would never see Queen without Freddie, having been lucky to see them in Sydney in 1976 and 1985. But I had a feeling the teaming with Adam Lambert might be special. It was overwhelmingly special. This was one of the most memorable concerts I have ever seen.
